Naomi’s adopted daughter, the Wife of the Lamb, a Gentile Bride

I hope to present you with scriptures here that allow you to track the bride through the ages, and lastly, I will provide you with the scriptural proofs that the Nation Israel is NOT “the Lamb’s wife”, she’s the wife of the Father. I found it easier to go back in time scripturally, from Revelation to the four gospels, to understand this.

To summarize, here is the short version of this post. You can copy and share with friends. I posted this on a website teaching unsound doctrine.

:Your explanation is confusing. It seems you’ve studied a great deal, but your explanation is more complicated than what you’re trying to explain. That does not qualify as an explanation, it just creates more questions:

The reason you don’t see the Bride of Christ in Revelation until Rev. 19 is because she is in heaven during the tribulation. Raptured away before the tribulation starts, “so shall we ever be with the Lord.” The reason so many cannot see the Bride is because she is hidden in PLAIN view.

As for Israel being the Bride of Christ, the Bible says the nation Israel will sleep in the wilderness in the mellinial reign, with King David as her ruler, and King, but also a co regent prince under King Jesus, (EZ. 34). This dichotomy is NOT consistent with a bridegroom/bride relationship.

King Jesus throne will be in the heavenlies with his Bride, we will be “seated with Christ in heavenly places” the Grace dispensation saints, in the bridal chamber, this is US, ruling the world.
The 12 Apostles and King David will rule over Israel. Jesus will be King.

If you study the Tabernacle, one finds the Holy of Holies was inside the Tabernacle, with its dimensions being a perfect cube, 15x15x15ft.

If you turn to Revelation, “the Lamb’s wife” in Revelation 21 is depicted as being inside a structure, a perfect cube of purest, clearest gold, its deminsions are 1500x1500x1500 miles, so this is self evident. This will be our eternal home with Christ Jesus. Note also the use of the word “wife”. This Bride has been married for 1000 years. Her wedding is found in Rev 19, just before Jesus second coming to save the nation Israel.

Definition of “the Bride”

The Bride of Christ IS HIS BODY, and will come out of the body of Christ, the Church, (Kingdom and Grace saints, think Rachel and Leah), BUT, NOT ALL of the Church is the Bride. The Kingdom saints are also the church, part of his Body, but not his Bride. They are friends and family members. (think Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz). Naomi being a family member, and Ruth being the Bride, part of Naomi’s body (BY ADOPTION), who came out of the family of Naomi.

In Revelation 21:3, you will see the tabernacle, the “New Jerusalem”. “the Tabernacle of God is with men” this is the Father reconciled with Israel, and those born in the mellinial reign, and who were resurrected and not condemned at the Great white throne judgement, “in the book of life”.

Reading on down to Revelation 21:9, Then you see the “HOLY Jerusalem” a city within a city, INSIDE the “NEW Jerusalem”, but it is also a city unto itself.

This is the Holy of Holies, inside the Tabernacle of God. This Tabernacle is where God the Father will dwell with his people, and fulfill all his promises to Israel, and Jesus will dwell with his Bride, the saints of the Grace dispensation, and we will enjoy an intimacy with Christ as his queen. No one else “but those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of life” can enter the Holy of Holies inside the Tabernacle.

Those twelve gates of the Tabernacle are for Jesus’ family, the Kingdom saints, the Priests of Israel, King David, and the Apostles. We also will be able to use the gates going in and out to and from the world.
The Kingdom saints will live in the “New Jerusalem” as family members, “children of the Bride chamber”, Part of the body, but not the Bride. They won’t live in the Bridal chamber. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” will have access to the Holy of Holies.

The mellinial reign Saints, yes, Saints, living and resurrected humans that were born in the mellinial reign, will enjoy an earthly kingdom, and won’t be allowed to come into the Bridal chamber. They will be in “the Book of Life”, not the “Lambs book of Life”.

One needs only to read how the scriptures describe israel during the thousand year reign to see she is not the wife of the Lamb.

While I may be in error about some of the details here, a “says what it says” approach to scripture makes it clear the nation Israel is not “the Lamb’s wife”. One can read Isaiah and Ezekial to see how Israel will live in the mellinium.

The confirmation of this dichotomy is found throughout the scriptures. One way to see the pattern is to simply make a list of Gentile Brides. I’ve counted at least ten so far. Here are a few:

Of All the Godly men in scripture from Adam to Jacob, to Joseph, to Boaz, to King David, EVERY ONE OF THEM had GENTILE BRIDES, including Moses and Jacob, as will Jesus also.

Joseph, a picture of Christ, was rejected by his family (Israel), and married a Gentile bride in his absence from Israel, and she sat next to him in his throne. A perfect picture of Jesus and his bride.

Boaz, ANOTHER picture of Christ in the Old Testament, married a Gentile bride ALSO, but she was a Jew by ADOPTION, as we are adopted into the Family of God by “the mother of us all”, the Church of Jerusalem.

The story of Boaz and Ruth is the perfect explanation that shows another aspect of the relationship Jesus has with his Church, the body, and his Bride, which comes from his body, just as Adams rib came from Adam to make Eve. It also shows Boaz as the redeemer, just as Christ will be the redeemer of the nation Israel.

Its plain as day, but hidden in plain view. Jesus Bride is a Gentile, who is a Jew by adoption, specifically, she is the Grace dispensation saints, which will come out of the body of Christ, his Church. I pray this helps your understanding.

A further explanation:

For the sake of time, and not to bore you, I will use a lot of symbolism in a further explanation of this post.

Most of it you will readily identify with, and much of it you will connect with during your individual study time.

Revelation 21:9: And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plaques, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

Who is this bride? There is a “progressive” new heresy going around the internet, you tube and facebook and churches that the church, the body of Christ, is not the Bride. They say that the Bride is the nation Israel. That cannot be. The Nation Israel is the wife of the Father.

Jesus will be Israel’s Shepherd King in the mellinium, with David as their vice regent, Shepherd prince/king under King Jesus. (Ez 34, 37)

King David will rule from Jerusalem, while Jesus’ throne will be in the heavenlies, in the Bridal chamber, with his queen, the grace dispensation saints.

I can see Paul, a Kingdom saint, as are all of Jesus’ Apostles, as Jesus’ special envoy, or ambassador to the nation Israel, while the other 12 Apostles rule over the Priest nation Israel.

It took me a lot of study and meditation to figure out this dichotomy, and I’m still filling in the blanks, but most of my questions have been answered.

This is one of the most mysterious dichotomys in the Bible. Paul refers to it as “a great mystery” I pray this helps your understanding.

As you read, you may find some of this confusing. I am not going to drown you in scriptural references. Most of you won’t bother to look them up, and the ones studious enough to recognize the relevant scriptures won’t need to.
the literal and literalize the spiritual in order to make their doctrine work.

The key is to know that the Church IS the body of Christ, and the Bride is also OF the body, or family, and will come out of the Church. The Church consists of Grace saints, and Kingdom saints, who were saved before the cross, and those who were saved after Calvary under Peter’s Kingdom gospel. Resurrection witnesses and those who saw Jesus earthly ministry are also Kingdom saints. Since King David will rule over the Apostles in the mellinial reign, then its logical that he too is a Kingdom saint.

Those believers who did NOT see the resurrection of Jesus, or his earthly ministry are GRACE saints, who believed by faith alone. They are also the body, AND the Bride of Christ.

The Bride is the adopted daughter of the Church of Jerusalem. BUT, Not all of the Body of Christ is “the Bride of Christ”. The Twelve Apostles, and indeed Paul, “as one born out of due time” are not part of the Bride of Christ. They are part of the Body of Christ, as is the Bride.

Picture it as one family. Jesus is the head of that family. A “kinsman redeemer”. This family is the Grace dispensation saints, and Kingdom saints from the nation Israel.
The believers who saw Jesus earthly ministry are the body of Christ, but not his Bride. The believers who came afterwards, who were saved by Grace through faith alone, are also part of the body AND ARE the BRIDE OF CHRIST.
Peter’s church, under the Kingdom gospel, is the body of Christ, but not the Bride. She can also be seen as Rachel, while the Grace gospel saints, also his body, can be seen as Leah.

Also, as mentioned earlier, if you look at the story of Naomi’s adopted Gentile daughter Ruth, and Boaz, it is a perfect explanation of the relationship I am trying to describe here.
Ruth represents the grace dispensation church. Naomi represents Israel, the Kingdom, “the mother of us all”, and the mother of the bride in the Kingdom dispensation, or period of the Church. (The Grace dispensation is parenthetical)
Both of these are of the same body (family), but only one is the Bride. One is in “the Book of Life”, and the Grace dispensation Saints are in the “Lamb’s book of life” that you will find mentioned in revelation. Kingdom saints came before, and will come after the Grace Dispensation.

The Pre Calvary Church was started under the Kingdom gospel. After Jesus ascension, Grace was the Gospel until the Rapture, the taking out of the Bride, and at such time, afterwards, a Kingdom gospel will again be in effect. Don’t worry about all this making perfect sense to you at the moment. for some it may even sound foreign, or strange, but if you are a student of the scriptures, it will make sense as you read and meditate on it, and connect the dots. Your own study will also vette any error I have made also.

Our Apostle Paul gives us the story of the choosing, betrothal and taking out of the Bride. Paul says “I have betrothed you to one husband”. This indicates he is not part of the Bride, but he is a family member, since only a father or family member could consent to a woman’s betrothal.

I will use Ephesians chapter five, and other scripture and commentary to explain. Ephesians 5:21-32 “Submitting yourselves unto one another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having a spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. he that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh: but nourishth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife (Jesus and his wife in the bridal chamber) , and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and his church.

We find the Lamb’s wife in Revelation 21:9. This structure, also known as the Bridal chamber, it is the Holy of Holies. It is 1500x1500x1500 miles. It is HUGE. If one studies the Tabernacle, and the Holy of Holies, you will learn that the Holy of Holies is 15x15x15 ft. It is very easy to see the correlation here.

The tabernacle is seen in revelation 21:3. this is for the reconciliation of Israel, and the Gentile nations. In Revelation 21:9, Coming down afterwards is the Holy of Holies, the bridal chamber, where you and I will live in a special intimacy with Jesus for eternity.

The Bridal chamber has twelve gates, one for each of the tribes of Israel. Its 12 foundations are named for the Apostles. It is made of pure gold, as clear as glass. The gates are named after the tribes of Israel. No one but “those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life” are allowed to enter into the city, or go out. “and the kings of the nations of the earth shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it”. by that logic, only kings whose names were written in the Lamb’s book of life are allowed to enter in.

This is the home of the ones written in the Lambs book of life. The wife of the Lamb, and her family by adoption. These members of the body of Christ, his friends and family, the kingdom dispensation saints, will have access to this bridal chamber through their respective tribal gate. Logically then, the Kingdom saints names are also written in the Lamb’s book of life, and this also means these Kings of the nations had to have been saved under the grace dispensation and were written in the Lamb’s book of life. These Kings are gentiles and Jews in the Body of Christ.

We shall rule over the Gentile nations outside Israel,as Jesus queen and co regent, while the the Twelve Apostles, and King David, as a vice regent King, will rule over Israel as a priestly nation, with Jesus as its Shepherd King, ruling from his throne in the heavenlies with his Bride, in the mellinium.

Two special books

The Book of life and the Lamb’s book of life:
The book of life is not the same as the Lamb’s book of life.
The Lamb’s book will be for believers in the Lord from the cross up to the rapture of the church, “Grace Saints”, and “Kingdom Saints” from John the Baptist to Paul the Apostle. (yes, Paul was saved under the Kingdom gospel, he met Jesus in the flesh, and the grace gospel did not exist when he got saved. More on this in another chapter.)

The BOOK OF LIFE will be used to judge all others.outside the body of Christ who lived after the rapture up to the Great white throne Judgement. Paul makes reference to the book of life in one of his epistles.

Now,let us look at Revelation chapter 19:7-9. Here we see a glorious time of worship and honor, and a wedding!  The Lamb is getting married!. This is the grace dispensation church, the body of Christ, standing before the Lamb. There is no judgement here ,only worship and praise. All the Old Testament saints, and the raptured church are there.. The Kingdom saints, the twelve apostles are there. They are friends of the Bridegroom. John the Baptist is the best man. (“there is none greater in heaven, save the least of the angels”) and the twelve apostles are the groomsmen, the ones who confirmed the betrothal. But who gives the bride away? Jesus does. He presents the bride to himself as a spotless virgin.  The Lamb’s wife has put on her wedding garments, her rewards, fine linen, white and clean, the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.
Keep in mind that the Nation Israel is on earth at this time, going through the tribulation. Just a verse or two later, we see the “armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, “white and clean” following Jesus to the Battle of Armegeddon.  They are following Jesus to “judge angels” and  begin their appointed service to him during his 1000 year reign.

We find their commission in Revelation 5:9-10. What is there commission? KINGS AND PRIESTS!. The Kings will be the grace dispensation believers who will rule over the gentile nations. The priests will be the saints from John the Baptist up to Paul the apostle. These saints will rule over themselves and the priest nation of Israel. Notice there is no judgement here only worship and praise. “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, ann hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every KINDRED, and Tongue, and people, and nation”. rev 5:10 And hast made us kings and priests: and we shall reign ON THE EARTH. This is the church of the grace dispensation. It cannot be anyone else. It cannot be Israel, because it says” EVERY NATION; AND PEOPLE. THIS is the body of Christ. These are his family members, and his bride. The Bride will come from the body of Christ as a family member, not all of the Body of Christ is the Bride, but all of the Bride comes from the body of Christ. Just like Ruth was a family member by adoption, and a relative of Boaz by adoption. The gentiles are adopted into the family of God. If you read the story of Ruth, you will find Naomi is a picture of the nation Israel. Boaz is her kinsman redeemer. Ruth is Naomi’s adopted daughter. Boaz marrying Ruth redeems Naomi’s lands, and makes Ruth a “co heir” to Naomi’s inheritance. She will also enjoy the blessings of Boaz and his inheritance also.

What does Paul say about it? Well, looking at 1 Thessalonians 4:16, we see Jesus come for his bride. He calls her out with a shout, and a trumpet blast. This is the rapture of the church, the body of Christ. The trumpet blast and the shout are the critical proofs that the grace dispensation church is the wife of the Lamb. The grrom surprising his wife with a trumpet blast and a shout, taking her out, never entering her home is one of the most exciting times of the Jewish wedding and betrothal. Jesus being a Jew, and a bridegroom, then logically, the trumpet blast and the shout are not for the nation Israel, who will be left behind to endure the tribulation for seven years. Jesus will return to redeem his mother in laws land at his second coming, bringing his bride with him.

Paul makes a very specific reference to the Wife of the Lamb. he calls it a mystery, but in the preceding verses, he uses a clear husband wife analogy to describe Jesus relationship with his bride. Paul also says he has betrothed us to one husband, meaning that Paul is a family member, in the body of Christ, but he is not part of the Bride.
Why is Paul not part of the Bride? Because Paul was not saved by grace through faith alone, nor were any of the Apostles. Paul met the Lord in the flesh, just as the Apostles did, and recieved salvation the same way the Apostles, and the saints at Pentecost did. Belief, repentance, and baptism for the remission of sins and to recieve the Holy Ghost. They were saved under the gospel of the Kingdom, which John, Jesus, and Peter preached. Paul had no need to be saved under the Gospel of Grace. He was already saved before he recieved the Gospel of Grace through faith.

No doubt Paul will be Israel’s ambassador to the Gentile nations in the mellinial reign.

Paul describes Jesus bridegroom, wife relationship in Ephesians 5:21-32 “Submitting yourselves unto one another in the fear of God. It’s plain as day. The church of the grace dispensation is the wife of the Lamb.

What did JESUS say about it?  Leaving Paul’s epistles and revelation, we will see what analogies Jesus used.

In his own words, he calls himself “the bridegroom”. He refers to his apostles as “children of the Bride chamber”, and John the baptist and the apostle john refer to themselves as “friend of the bridegroom”. Jesus always refers to Israel as “sheep”, “lost sheep” , and himself as “shepherd” or “good shepherd”. This is a clear indication that Jesus will be Israel’s shepherd King, over King David, during the mellinial reign.
During the Mellinium, Jesus will sanctify the Nation Israel, and present her to the father, the Father finally reconciling the nation Israel unto himself. We see this in Revelation 21:3. The “New” Jerusalem is the Tabernacle, the fulfilled promise of God in the “HOLY Jerusalem” is a booth, the Holy of Holies, which is the “Lamb’s Wife”, bridal chamber in revelation 21;9. these are two different structures, with one inside the other.

This fundamental misunderstanding has led many astray. Because of subtle differences in wording,  It can only be understood properly in the King James authorized Bible.

There are a lot of logistical issues with the bride denier doctrine. From what i have been able to gather, They believe that we will rule in heaven as Jesus rules on earth for a thousand years.

Paul says we “shall judge angels”. Ok, lets do a walk through of this doctrine. Alright, we know the next judgement is OUR judgement, the Judgement seat of Christ 2 cor 15, so logically we are not going to be doing any judging THERE. OK, reading on, we see Jesus return to earth, and the “sheep goat” judgement in Revelation. Ok, maybe this is it. The bride denier doctrine maintains that we are STILL in heaven during this time, judging angels. But theres one little problem. All of satans angels, including him were permanantly evicted from heaven, cast down to earth in Revelation : , so? where’s our angels were supposed to be judging? It cant be “good angels” that we will be judging because we dont have the authority, nor a reason. Jesus said John the baptist was the greatest in heaven save the least of the angels, so there goes that. We are not going to “judge angels” in the heavenlies. So where? logically, its got to be on earth, the place the Bible says they will be sent during the tribulation. UNLESS, God sets up some type of judgement seat in heaven, so that when we get there, were going to judge all the “bad angels” and send them down to earth. Ive never saw any scripture for that. In revelation , all activities in heaven are joyous occasions, adn all judgements, with the exception of ours, which will only be for reward, not wrath, take place on earth.

Denying the bride is the only way bride deniers can make their doctrine fit their opinion. I mean, if we were the Bride, it wouldn’t make sense for Jesus to get married, then leave us in heaven for a thousand years. but if were “co heirs” separate but equal, as they assert, then it makes us a brother of sorts, and then their opinion fits.
what ever your opinion, one thing they have problems with is revelation 19. Here, it is very clear a marriage has taken place, its a wedding feast. just a verse or two later, Jesus heads to Armegeddon on a war horse. Where is his bride? Will he bring her with him for a thousand years? or leave her at the house for a mellinium? not even a honey moon.how uncuth of him. I hope you can see the flaws of their opinion .

Jesus calls himself the bridegroom in John 3:29.

Jesus promises to go and prepare a place for his bride in John 14:3. A Jewish groom always built a separate dwelling attached to his fathers “mansion” or on the property nearby. Another reason Rev. 21:9 is the bridal chamber, not the tabernacle mentioned in revelation 21:3.

Jesus refers to “children of the bridechamber” in reference to the Jews. He also calls them “sheep”, “Lost sheep”, and refers to him as “the good shepherd”

John calls himself “friend of the bridegroom” in John 3:29.

Ephesians 5: Paul uses the groom/bride analogy to describe Jesus relationship with his church. “i speak of a great mystery, concerning CHrist and his church.”
2 Cor 11:2. Paul uses the words “i have betrothed you to one husband” meaning were teh bride of Christ.

More shadows and picture types:
Throughout the Bible, every single leader who is a picture of Christ had a GENTILE BRIDE. No exceptions.

Adam/Eve.(gentile bride) A picture of Jesus and his church. Eve was Adam’s body. Made while he was asleep. Adam was pierced for her transgressions, bruised for her iniquities. Adam was a type of Christ in that he chose to join her in death than forsake her. He loved her that much.

Noah married a gentile bride.

Abram/Abraham married a gentile bride, Sarai/Sarah.

Isaac/Rebekah (gentile) Rebekah married a man she’d never met. This is a picture of Christ and the Grace dispensation Church. None of us ever met Jesus.

Eliezer is a type of the HS when he seeks a bride for the father. Isaac met his bride in a field by a well. We will meet Jesus in the air.

Jacob/Rachel/Leah (gentiles). In this story, since she bare Joseph, a type of Christ, Rachel is seen as a picture of the kingdom Church of Israel. Leah is the Grace dispensation church. Leah’s children were born before Rachel’s, then Rachel’s travail began. After Rachel had her children, again, her death in childbirth is the picture of israel during the tribulation. Leah’s bearing two more sons after Rachel is also a picture of the melliniel reign, during which the gentiles will multiply for a thousand years.

Joseph/Asenath (gentile) Joseph is probably the most distinct picture of Christ in the OT. Joseph married his wife in his absence from Israel, again a picture of Christ and his Bride. Joseph’s wife sat next to him in his throne. His two son’s became patriarchs, or “sons of Jacob” the tribes of Ephraim and Manessah. During the Melliniel reign, these two sons will most likely be Joseph and David.

Boaz/Ruth (gentile) Boaz a picture of Christ. Ruth a gentile, and a Jew by adoption. Naomi is a picture of the Nation Israel. Jesus is her kinsman redeemer.

David/Bathsheba (gentile).

Jesus/church(gentile) wedded to a woman he never met. she’s wedded to a man she’s never met. betrothed in his absence from Israel (three days in the grave) and his father.

in Thessalonians 4:17, we see Jesus coming for his bride, surprising her with a shout and a trumpet blast, and taking her away for seven days (the seven year tribulation).

In revelation 5, we see the bride among the people “from all nations, of ever kindred and tongue, and we shall REIGN ON EARTH WITH HIM”.

In rev 19 we see the wedding of the Lamb. a few verses later, the Lamb and his bride return to earth on horses.

In rev 21:9, we see the bridal chamber coming down to earth.

Eve-(gentile) Married Adam. Came from her husband’s body. Was made while he was asleep (3 days in the grave). Adam was pierced in his side to get the rib out (Jesus was pierced for us also). Her husband chose to meet her in death rather than be separated from her (Jesus chose to meet us in death also).
Sarah- (gentile)
Rebekah-(gentile, mother of Jacob)Married Isaac. Eliezer was a type of the Holy Spirit in seeking out a bride for Abrahams son Isaac. With Abraham as a picture of the father, Isaac a picture of the Son. Married a man she had never seen or even met. Isaac met his bride in a field, Jesus meets us in the air. Rebekah respected her husband as her master. Rebekah came from Babylon. Rebekah was selected after prayer and requesting God’s guidance. Met her husband at a well. (Jesus side at Calvary was a type of well)

Asenath- (gentile) Married Joseph in Joseph’s absence from his father. Her father was a pagan high priest. Was not under a covenant, or law. Had no knowledge of Jehovah or any of the covenant Jacob and Joseph fell under at that time. Joseph is probably the foremost type of Christ mentioned in the Bible. Few would argue that. It stands to reason his bride would be a picture of the Church of Christ. Joseph was highly exalted in Egypt. Only the pharaoh was above him in the kingdom. His wife sat with him “in heavenly places” as we will sit with Christ in the bridal chamber and rule the world.

Zipporah (gentile) Married Moses during his absence from his people. Her father was a pagan priest, and she too had no knowledge of Jehovah or the covenant.

In summary, any one who believes the nation Israel is the Bride of Christ has a poor understanding of the picture types of the Old Testament. I may go more into detail in future posts. Now for the scriptural proofs that the nation Israel is NOT the Bride of Christ.

She will sleep in the wilderness. Really now? is that how a man is supposed to treat his wife?

David will be her King, as a vice regent. David will rule from Jerusalem, Jesus will rule from the heavenlies with his Bride.

Jesus always refers to Israel as “lost sheep” “children of the bride chamber”, yet calls himself “bridegroom”

John the Baptist called himself “a friend of the Bride groom”, an indication he is not part of the Bride, but will be part of the Grooms court, most likely the best man. John is Jesus first cousin also.
