Response to a legalist:
You talk about “the church fathers”. Have you any doctrinal shoes to wear besides theirs, and “the early church?”
I suppose you presume everyone sins more than you do. How you know that I have no idea, but obviously you are more righteous than folks you don’t even know.
You talk about “denying” Jesus in their deeds, well, I have saw church deacons get saved after playing church for 30 years, so if “deeds” are your standard to judge a man’s salvation, you’d be easy to deceive.
Good works are plainly taught as a clear expectation of any believer. All “religions” teach that. The difference being that “religion” teaches that if you do the works, God will save you, or MIGHT save you, it depends.
Such is the complete opposite of Christianity, which teaches Christ saves all who believe in him. No “works” are required, only faith.
Any “works” afterwards, whether good or bad, will be examined at the judgment seat of Christ, at which time all believers will stand and give an account for their lives, and receive “each according to his works”.
But even then it will NOT be concerning salvation, but rewards, or the lack thereof. It is the imminence of THIS, giving an account, and love and gratitude to our Saviour for saving us, as well as a hope for reward, not standing ashamed, that should motivate, inspire and restrain any believer, we have no fear of losing salvation. It is IMPOSSIBLE for a believer to go to hell.
You don’t understand salvation Robert, but you THINK you do, your stubbornness and pride drives you to ignore correction and sound doctrine to preach a false, works based gospel.
Yours is a gospel of bondage Paul spoke against in Galatians Chapter 3:1-3.O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
The Bible says not to pray for one such as you, nor to wish him god speed, you are an enemy of Christ and the gospel, my hope is one day you see the truth.
