Should we confess and repent of our sins after salvation?

There is a heresy floating around out there that essentially says daily prayer is unnecessary and is a sign that one does not trust their Saviour.

That has to be one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever heard, Spoken presumptously from a lack of understanding, but I will not address it specifically here. Who ever imagined CHRISTIANS discouraging others NOT to pray?, unbelievable

But the short answer to that question is yes, of course we should, DAILY, not for salvation, but for many other good reasons, not the least of which is for a clear conscience and daily fellowship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Whether one admits it or not, he will sin after salvation to one degree or another, and even unintentionally.

The Old testament sacrificial system even required a sacrifice for sins of ignorance, so NO ONE is perfect. this is why prayer is so important.

One of my dearest friends in the Lord asked me a question about a confusing meme she saw on Facebook. That question is the inspiration for this post, thank you Grace.

It said : “If you believe you have to confess and repent of your sins after salvation, you’re not saved”.

How silly.

Jesus tells us how to pray, and to pray DAILY in Matthew chapter 6.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Speaking in the sense that such will be answered for and counted against you at your judgement, not concerning salvation).

In other places, John tells us: “Abide in him, so when he appears for us, we will not stand ashamed, and receive a full reward” 2 John 1:8-9

2 John 2:28.

“Abide” simply meaning fellowship with our Saviour Jesus Christ. How do we do that? TALK to him DAILY at least.

Here is the text of a conversation with Grace that helps explain it:

(“If you believe you have to confess and repent of your sins after salvation, you’re not saved”.)

Me: “Whether one thinks daily prayer is required for salvation or not is irrelevant. Hes PRAYING, and talking to the Lord. Is there some law against that?

There are some heretical doctrines that posit that daily confession and repentance is “not for us” and will question your salvation for doing so.”

“How silly.”

“Greasy gracers” preach the same thing. They are misleading a lot of Christians.”

Who ever imagined CHRISTIANS discouraging others NOT to pray?, unbelievable

Daily prayers are essential for growth, fellowship, strength, and having your prayers answered.

Most importantly, confession and repentance are important for receiving a full reward at judgement, but it is not a salvific issue.

(The essence of the meme) “So if I pray and repent daily, (thinking it’s required) I’m not saved?”

My my my.

We are in an irrevocable relationship with our Lord, so logically it follows that we stay in touch with him. We cannot grow, and Jesus can’t do us much good if we don’t.

Grace: “Don’t they ever apologise to their own human father when they do wrong? Or to those they hurt?”

Me” “Apparently not. They don’t view him as God or a person, or a human being with feelings”. (Yes, Jesus is just as human as we are, and He’s God.)

Grace: “Our “Father” who art in heaven.”

Me:”Give us this DAY, our daily bread” yes. DAILY..

Grace: “I talk to him (Jesus) just like I talk to you.”

Me: “I pray going down the road. Usually just from gratitude. I think he likes those the most”.

Me: (referring to the meme): It’s a doctrinal perversion. He doesnt have any understanding”.

BELIEF in The Lord Jesus Christ is all that’s required for salvation, BUT, a believer cannot get away with what he once did in the flesh.

If he doesn’t change, OR if he does, then returns to his former debauchery before salvation, while he’s still saved, (2 Tim 2:13), he is now much more accountable than an unbeliever.

The Bible says such people are “holding the truth in unrighteousness”, knowing the righteousness of God, and what is expected of them, yet living contrary to him. , . He’s became a reproach to God and himself, and opens the door to the devil in his life, and the Lord does not take this lightly, he will deal with it.

THAT SAID, If one thinks they can get saved, and continue to live in their previous lifestyle, they CAN, but they won’t get away with it for long.

They’ll suffer in the flesh, they might have their days shortened, and show up at judgement with no rewards “filthy garments”, and receive a whipping to go along with it.

Judgement wILL begin at the house of God, and his children.

Jesus gives us fair warning:

Luke 12:47: And that servant, which knew his Lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Mt 24:46

Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delayeth his coming;

49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

50 The Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

These “evil servants” are those that are cut asunder and receive stripes at judgement. “Cut asunder” refers to the severity of the blows. This is not concerning salvation, we are secure in Christ Jesus.

I’m convinced that 99% of Christian’s do not understand the dichotomy I just presented. I supposed I need to blog that, so here it is.

See my other post “a full reward”.

Blessings!
